SCSI Enclosure Services - Most recent SCSI enclosure products support a protocol called SCSI Enclosure Services (SES). The initiator can communicate with the enclosure using a specialised set of SCSI commands to access power, cooling, and other non-data characteristics.

USB enclosure - A number of manufacturers offer portable USB hard drives that offer performance comparable to conventional ATA (IDE) drives. These external drives, called enclosures, are often composed of an embedded system translating device that connect to USB on one side and to conventional IDE, ATA, ATAPI, or SCSI drives on the other.

HP Jamaica - The Jamaica was an external SCSI disk enclosure from Hewlett-Packard. It was available in deskside or rackmount chassis.

SCSI element codes - SCSI Enclosure Services (SES) devices contains a number of elements, each of which is defined by a one byte SCSI element code. There are many different element codes defined to cover various devices as shown in the list below.
